Ho, ho, ho!! Christmas is on Sunday, my friends!! Can you believe it? It feels like it and yet, it doesn’t.
Okay, so, I have some news on the going back to school front. Turns out that’s not going to happen in January as I had planned. :/ Not all of my transcripts are in and I cannot register. Nope, didn’t delay in getting the request in – sent that one off via email on October 17. They said to give 4-6 weeks for processing. PLEEENNNTTTYYY of time. AND, to top it off, I actually SPOKE with a person in that transcript office 2 weeks ago and I apparently had to resend my request (no clue where my original one went) so I did and she confirmed she had it. I also informed her that the deadline for my transcripts to be in so I could register was yesterday (12/22) and she said “we’ll see what we can do.” Um, seriously, since it had already been 8 WEEKS, what you can do is drop everything, put me first in line, and take care of my one little measly request. At least, that’s what I would have done. But, clearly, I don’t work there so …. 🙁
Oh well. I’m certain there’s an excellent reason why I have to delay my start. I don’t know what it is but …. maybe it has something to do with my upcoming surgery, whenever that is? OH! OR, maybe it has something to do with the fact that I actually interviewed for my dream job (!!!!!) on Wednesday and have my fingers crossed so hard right now that they pick me that my fingers are turning white. Whatever it is, there isn’t anything I can do about it now so … moving on….
….to the REAL reason why I gathered you here today –
Friday Favorites – the Christmas Music edition!
We all have our favorite Christmas songs, right? I mean, unless you don’t like Christmas music. I’ve heard that there are some people out there that don’t actually like Christmas music but …. that has to be an urban legend. I mean, who doesn’t like Christmas music?! Not this girl! In fact, I have some favorites that I could actually listen to at any given time during the year. Why wait? If a song makes you happy, you should listen to it! So, what are my top 5 favorite Christmas songs? Well, without further ado….
1. MUST BE SANTA
You’ve probably never heard of it unless you had parents that were just like mine and listened to a wide variety of music. Have you ever heard of Mitch Miller? We used to go to my grandparents’ house for Christmas (unless they came to us) and this cassette was ALWAYS played. And this song was ALWAYS on repeat. And this song could make my sister and I stop mid-car argument and sing along. At the top of our lungs. I may or may not have made up a dance to go along with it. #dontjudgeme
2. DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR?
Remember when Rosie O’Donnell had her own show? And then, she wrote a book and made some Christmas CDs that benefitted children’s charities? Well, say what you want about Rosie but she did a lot of great things for kids in need and the Christmas CDs were actually pretty good. One of my favorites comes from there. I should also note that I grew up watching Sesame Street and thus, I introduced it to my children. And they were then introduced to Elmo. (okay, fine, the guy behind Elmo’s voice is … well….putting that aside for this song. It’s Christmas. It’s about the message.) And this song makes my inner 5 year old really, really, really happy!
3. WINTER WONDERLAND
Who didn’t grow up listening to this song? Some of us actually live in an area where it snows at Christmas. Not me. I live in Virginia where Christmas could bring 60 degree weather or 20 degree weather and freezing rain but very rarely snow. Unless you live in the mountains. I don’t live in the mountains. Virginia weather sucks. I just wanted a winter wonderland in December ONCE. Nope. It’s okay. I’m not bitter. Anyway, I do think snow is beautiful and when Macy Gray came out with this song, I thought it was equally as beautiful.
4. ROCKING AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE
This song, radio or Christmas CD or Christmas reel-to-reel (yes, reel-to-reel. I’m old. my folks had a one. and now I have it. and all 88 reel-to-reel tapes. it’s mostly decorative (it needs to be fixed). but the memories!!!!) ALWAYS made me stop and dance. And besides, the song was good enough for Home Alone so …..
5. RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER
This song spoke volumes to a kid with low self-esteem. EVERYONE has something about them that makes them special and a part of the group. You think it’s about a reindeer with a glowing nose but it’s about acceptance and love. 🙂
I could totally add to this list because I love Christmas music but these are some of my favorites. Just listening to them puts me in a happy mood. 🙂Christmas music should bring you joy! What are your favorites? Click To Tweet
