Happy Thursday, my friends! T-minus 12 days until my knee surgery and the reality of it all is finally starting to set in. My surgery referral has been official approved, I’ve done the pre-surgical consult with the nurse in the surgery center, and I’ve got all the pertinent deets taken care of.

Thing 2 will be my surgery day hero – taking me, waiting for me, and then bringing me home. Thing 1 will be coming up a couple days before and she’ll be my hero at home –  making sure I have ice in my knee wrap, making sure I have food and drink so the pain meds don’t make me completely incoherent, and she’ll take me to my day 1 post-op physical therapy appointment. Then, my sailor arrives home and he’ll take over for the next week or so! I’m going to have a full house and I’m totally going to be just hanging out in the chair. haha

The countdown to surgery, snacks, and all the tea

It’s going to be pretty great. I think. Mostly. I may or may not have a small problem with sitting still. The really not great part is going to come when Thing 1 has to leave and then my sailor has to go back to California. And then what? I’m going to be on crutches, in a brace, and non-weight bearing for 6-8 weeks. And I won’t have anybody in the house to help me do things.

These are the things that are weighing heavily on my mind:

  • If I can’t bend my knee, how in the h-e-double hockey sticks am I going to put my undies on? And what about the rest of my clothes and my socks and shoes?
  • Now, this is the real important one – HOW AM I GOING TO CARRY MY COFFEE TO THE LIVING ROOM???? (and, yes, coffee > underwear)
  • And to follow that one – HOW AM I GOING TO GET MY DINNER TO THE TABLE?
  • I’m not even going to think about how I’m going to get in and out of the shower. Oh good grief.

I might have to invest in a little push-cart. I’ll put my food on it and push it a little and then crutch forward. Push it and then crutch forward. It’ll take me an hour to get to the table. haha  But seriously, any advice? Have you had knee surgery and figured out how to do those things? HELP. ME.

In other news, I just found this stuff at the Kroger.

Honestly, it was the words “Angry Kettle Corn” that caught my attention. Ha! Have you ever seen this stuff? I haven’t tried it yet. I was too busy chowing on a chocolate chip cookie. #dontjudgeme I’ll let you know what I think, though!

Also, Yogi Tea is my new jam. Added these 3 to my tea collection!

That’s all the random I have for today. Okay, that may not be exactly true but some of my random is just way to random to share sometimes. haha I hope you have a fantastic day!!

  • Do you like tea? What’s your favorite brand? Flavor?
  • Tell me something random.

As always, thanks Amanda for letting me Think Out Loud!

Obvoiusly, I DO like tea. And Yogi teas. Although my favorite brand is probably Republic of Tea.

As I was reading your post, I was just thinking that maybe you need a walker. The walker my Dad uses has a little seat on it that you could put stuff on & push. Hopefully you will be more mobile than you think by the time you’re alone, but boy, I know I’d be stressing about that too. I can tell you this too shall pass. We always figure out a way to get stuff done, don’t we?

Good luck! And keep in mind why you’re doing it!

From what I understand, as I move on through the healing process, my knee will get flexed a little more each week. So, maybe eventually, one of those carts will be possible! That would definitely make life easier, that’s for sure. I think my sister might have one from when she broke her foot. I’ll have to ask! Good idea!! And yeah, once you’re stuck in a situation, it’s a lot easier to figure out some way to get things done. Adapt and overcome, right? 🙂

I’ve seen the Republic of Tea brand but haven’t tried it yet. What’s your favorite flavor from them? Having 20+ boxes of tea isn’t a bad thing, right? haha

Invest in thermos with a lid. Then you can jump. Or get a little attachment for your crutches like they do for tailgates, lol. Or just spend a lot of time in the kitchen, lol. I did that, no shame, when I was on crutches.
Get a grabber (they sell them at drugstores). Or just get REALLY flexible ;D
I’m just glad that your surgery was finally approved! Yay!

Oooh, the grabber is a GREAT idea!! I’m going to have to go and get one of those today before I forget. Because honestly, I don’t see REALLY flexible in my near future. haha And I like the idea of an attachment for my crutches. You know, that would be even handy for my water bottle! Brilliant! So many excellent ideas. Thank you!!
