ULTIMATE COFFEE DATE – DECEMBER

Welp, it’s December already. Where did THAT come from? Good grief.

I’m doing something new today – I mean, when was the last time you saw me blog on a Saturday?! – and I’m joining in the Ultimate Coffee Date with Deborah and Coco.  I’ve got my cup of joe, do you have yours? Let’s chat. 🙂

Ultimate Coffee Date - December

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I actually got my Christmas decorations up before December 1st. If you know me, this will amaze you. I am so not that person who puts up the tree right after Thanksgiving. In fact, once upon a time, I would try to wait until the middle of December to get stuff up. #dontjudgeme I just didn’t like the disruption to my normal life and I could not wait to take them all down! If I’d had my way, everything would have come down on December 26. Bah humbug! LOL

Ultimate Coffee Date - December

Now, don’t get me wrong, I actually do love my Christmas decorations. In fact, I really love them in this house. Maybe that was it … IDK.  Or perhaps I really am related to the Grinch. haha

If we were having coffee, I’d totally tell you that I made some new runner friends!! I was at the park up the road from my house (I run through there frequently) taking pictures of Thing 1, my son-in-law, and Grand thing 2, and I saw these girls taking pictures of each other running. I immediately thought that I needed to be friends with them! LOL  Well, when we were leaving, they happened to be in the parking lot too. After a few minutes of trying to convince myself, I put on my big girl pants and went over and said hi. Turns out they come down here regularly to run and they’re part of a running club (unaffiliated – just a large group of people) in this area and they like to run marathons and ultras!! So…long story short, I’m now in the Facebook group, we’re friends on Facebook, we’re following each other on Insta, and I’m joining the group for a run on Sunday!!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that raking is not my favorite chore. I’d so much rather shovel snow than rake leaves. (Don’t tell anyone I said that. I’d rather not shovel snow either…..) So, when we were graced with gorgeous weather the other day, I broke out the lawn mower and mowed/mulched all the leaves in the backyard. Boom!

Ultimate Coffee Date - December

Yes, there are still leaves in the flower beds that need to be raked and more will probably fall from that tree but hey, I didn’t have to rake the whole yard!  Last year, I raked and bagged like 17 bags of disgusting and wet leaves. Blech!

Last year’s leaves. This was just the first picture!

If we were having coffee, I’d probably shrug and say everything is okay…. and then I would blurt out that I miss my sailor. He’ll be home for Christmas this year (thank goodness because last year without him was the worst! and I get him for 2 whole weeks!!!) and the birth of our third grandchild (if said grandchild cooperates! haha), but I want him home to stay. I Can. Not. Wait. until he retires.

Ultimate Coffee Date - December

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I want to become a volunteer for our local Humane Society – I even have the application filled out – but I’m hesitant to actually take the plunge. I’m pretty animal sensitive. I’m going to want to bring them all home!!

Now it’s your turn to share!

Tell me:

  • Raking or shoveling?
  • When do you put your Christmas decorations up?
  • How do you feel about talking to strangers?

I’ve been totally slacking in the blogging world lately. x_x Your Christmas tree is super pretty! That last gif is priceless, hahaha. It’s future me!

Thank you! It’s a pre-lit one so that makes it really easy. We’ve had it for 3 years now because the other one was literally 20 years old and falling apart. I have 3 cats now so I’m really close to accurate for me on that last gif. That’s how it feels sometimes! haha

Making new runner friends is always a plus! Can’t have too many. Very impressive on the raking and bagging that is a ton of work

  3. Coco | 2nd Dec 17

Shoveling, for sure, maybe because we only have enough snow to shovel a few times a year – if that. 😉 Yay on new running friends. Finding Moms Run This Town changed my running life — and I’ve made great friends in the process. I put up our tree today and that’s early for me. But I won’t have time next weekend, and if I don’t have it up by the time my son comes home he’ll be bummed.

There’s a Moms Run This Town group out here but it’s an hour away. That makes me so sad! I might try to link up with them every now and then just so I can make new runner friends. Never can have too many!

And yeah, we barely get snow here – I may have shoveled once last year – so that definitely the way way out. Lol

everytime I see someone running in my neighborhood I am always thinking “why don’t I know you? – we like the same things.” but it feels weird to STOP someone while they are running to say hi. right? haha. I would like to volunteer at the human society too! I always think I should be walking and running dogs from the local shelter. Ollie would be JEALous. oh yeah and Ba Humbug. Ha ha ha aha. I am not sure how the leaves get picked up in my yard. hubby “probably” does it. LOL

Exactly!! There’s this guy that I see running in the neighborhood behind my house where I frequently run and it’s weird that we haven’t talked. I’ve lived here for 4 years! haha

Hooray for making new running friends – thats great! While I do most of my runs solo, I do like running with friends when I can!

While I love animals, I’m also not sure that I could volunteer at a pet store or shelter. I just love animals so much and I would probably come home with a new dog every week, lol

I’m so used to running alone, I don’t know what it will be like to run with a group again! I’ve missed it but it still makes me nervous. Silly, right? Lol

And, I’m with you!! I follow the Humane Society on Facebook and they just posted some senior cats who needed extra visiting and I about died. I wanted them ALL!!! I’ve even screenshotted a dog that I wanted even though he wouldn’t be a good fit. I just loved his face so much! I don’t know … it’s dangerous territory. Lol

I used to always get the Christmas tree up (not necessarily fully decorated, though) on Wednesday night in between preparing the Thanksgiving food/details. Well, the past couple of years, the tree has waited until the weekend after Thanksgiving…and all has been well. My OCD did not rebound, and no panic attacks. I don’t mind raking leaves…probably because we never had much for leaves in my childhood home, so that’s a “chore” I missed out on. Now, our house has a bunch of pine trees (needles EVERYWHERE) and a couple of huge oak trees (which continue to drop leaves throughout the winter). So…I get more than my fair share of raking every season.

Ugh, pine needles are the worst!!! My neighbor has a bunch that like to drift into my front yard.

I did volunteer at the Humane Society for a few years, then for a friend who ran a very small local shelter. I am good about knowing my limits. I never brought any animals home at all! And I promised my husband that I would never bring an animal home without asking him first.

That’s wonderful that you’ve found new running friends! I am definitely not good at speaking to strangers & am quite sure I would have never done that. Kudos!

I hate both raking & shoveling. Pretty equally. Last year my husband started to mulch the leaves with the lawn mower and I haven’t had to rake/bag leaves since. It’s heaven. I still have to shovel sometimes (although he snow blows — I just don’t like snow blowers!

I’m Jewish. No decorations 🙂 But I enjoy others’ decorations.

I don’t know if I can do it!! I follow the Humane Society on Facebook and I just cry sometimes when I see the animals. Especially if you can tell they’ve been abused. 😭 I’m still doing some soul searching. I donate so there’s that but …. we’ll see.

It was definitely difficult to go talk to them. I actually got in my truck and started it and was ready to go. Changed my mind and turned it off. Figured i needed to go for it – I mean, runners make the best friends, right? 🙂

My folks have a snow blower. Seems like quite a bit of work, though!

I’m so not a fan of raking leaves either and will admit we still have plenty in our yard (and don’t even get me started on the flower beds!)

It’s great that your husband will be home soon. I can only imagine how hard celebrating the holidays without him must be!

Right after I mowed, the winds came and all the leaves that remained in the tree are now on the ground. *sigh* 😂

I’m so glad he’ll be home! This whole “being stationed apart” business is harder than any deployment! Ugh.

Thanks for stopping by! Good luck with your leaves. Haha
