The theme for this week’s edition of Tuesdays on the Run is Goals for 2018. I’m linking up with Marcia, Erika, and Patty.

Well, 2018 is here! Buh-bye 2017, don’t let the door smack you in the booty on your way out!

2017 was definitely something else, as years go, and I’m trying to take what I’ve learned during that whole roller coaster ride and use it to my advantage in 2018.

Back in August, I set some pretty lofty goals for myself in 2018 and I haven’t changed those goals since then.  The only thing I’ve changed since then is I dropped that on-line CrossFit coaching program through Power, Speed, Endurance, and hired a running coach.

My strength workouts are a little different than what I’ve become used to over the past few years (um, hello CrossFit!) but I’m not sad.  My program is still new so there’s definitely room for changing things up as I move along. Plus, I’m doing work that will actually BENEFIT me as a runner and help me to get stronger and hopefully, remain uninjured (that is key. NOT trying to go down that road again!)  I do feel that I need to add in some accessory work though – like pull-ups – so I don’t lose them.

Oh, and I’ve added a race to my 2018 schedule!  Here’s what my plan looks like:

  1. Run the MCM 17.75k in March
  2. Run the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler in April (WHOOP!! My first time running this race ever!)
  3. Run the Marine Corps Marathon (my 3rd!) in October and shoot for a BQ!
  4. Run my first 50k and be happy about it! (<- fingers crossed LOL)

It’s been a while since I focused on my running and had races planned. It feels good to be back. 🙂

Tell me:

  1. What are your fitness goals for 2018?
  2. Do you have any races planned?

I’ve heard such great things about the Marine Corps Marathon!! It sounds like a great motivating race to train for!

You’re going to do amazing and I can’t wait to follow along!!

Thank you!! I love the MCM. It really is a motivating race and the crowd support is incredible!

  2. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets | 3rd Jan 18

You have some great goals for 2018!! I really need to do the 17.75K one of these days. Cherry Blossom is a blast!

Oh, I’m so excited about the Cherry Blossom!! I ran the first 17.75k and they’ve changed the course since then. I’m looking forward to the new route. You should definitely do it!

  3. Amanda @blackbeanqueen | 2nd Jan 18

That’s so cool you are planning on doing a 50k! 🙂

Thanks! I’m nervous and excited and doubting my sanity only a little bit! 😜😂

  4. These trending 2018 goals show us we're all on the same page - Fit Approach | 2nd Jan 18

[…] it appears, was a challenging year for a lot of us. The Fit Nana writes, “2017 was definitely something else, as years go, and I’m trying to take what […]

  5. MCM Mama | 2nd Jan 18

I’m hoping to be at the 17.75K as well. Even if I’m not, I plan to be running my 5th MCM this year.

I keep thinking about doing an ultra, but somehow I just can’t convince myself to make the commitment.

      Jennifer | 3rd Jan 18

Ooh, we should plan to meet up!!! At either one. 😁 And yeah, it’s a little bit more of a commitment to train for an ultra but … It’s only 5 more miles. 🤪😜😂

  6. Wendy | 2nd Jan 18

Sounds like a great plan! I can’t wait to see you crush that BQ goal!

  7. Lisa | 2nd Jan 18

Sounds like you have a good plan in place! I don’t have any races on the schedule but Im hoping to start signing up for some spring ones. A 50k is so exciting!!

  8. Marcia | 2nd Jan 18

You’ve got a nice plan mapped out already! I totally loved MCM. One of my faves for sure. All I’ve got so far is the Gasparilla Amber Challenge (5k, 15k, half) in Feb and RnR Carlsbad in March. Kind of bummed there will be no marathon majors checked off this year but hopefully in 2019.

That challenge sounds fun! Is that over a weekend? And MCM is definitely one of my favorites. Great city, great community, great race put on by the Marines. 💙

  9. Kimberly Hatting | 2nd Jan 18

Oh, I’m jealous!! I’d LOVE to do the Cherry Blossom someday, and of course MCM! The 50K sounds like a great challenge 😉

I was surprised I got picked in the Cherry Blossom lottery! I’m excited! I grew up around DC and we never even went in when I was a kid to see the cherry blossoms. We don’t do crowds. haha Plus, we always had something else going on. I love the MCM – it’s seriously one of the best. 🙂

Congrats on taking the plunge on a 50k. I was intrigued at which one you picked so I clicked on it to see. And that Seashore 50k was the first and only 50k I did and it was a great race! Hopefully the weather will be nice for you!

      Jennifer | 2nd Jan 18

Thanks! I’m both excited and terrified! LOL. I know some people who just did Seashore and it was cold. The way things work around here, it’ll probably be 70 degrees next year. haha! Have you considered doing another ultra?

  11. Jamie King | 2nd Jan 18

Yes to running your first 50K – you can do it! Excited for your year in running!

I hear nothing but good things about MCM! 2018 will be your year. I can feel it!

      Jennifer | 2nd Jan 18

I love the MCM series! They really put on a great, well-organized race. I’m hoping this is my year. I need it after last year! lol

  13. kookyrunner | 2nd Jan 18

Woohoo! Love your goals for 2018 and the races that you have selected for the year!

      Jennifer | 2nd Jan 18

I’m really excited! It’s been so long since I trained for a race. And, I totally checked to make sure that the MCM 17.75k didn’t conflict with cheering you on at Shamrock. Can’t be gone that weekend!! LOL 😀
