Weekly Workout Recap #4

Alright, another week down!  This one was the start of a new training cycle and man, was it a good/tough one! Linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap. I need to start by saying that I screwed up. I apparently had a shake-out run programmed for Sunday but I assumed it was a rest day. (you know what they say about the word “assume.” oops. hee-haw, hee-haw. lol) I didn’t even see that I had a run to do until about 3pm that afternoon. Needless to say, the run…

5 Things I Learned Shopping for Trail Running Shoes

So, if you’ve been reading my recent rambles, you know that I’ve decided to run more trails in 2018 and I even have 2 trail 50ks planned. If you’re new, welcome! And yes, I think I may have lost my mind. haha Anyway, running less on the road and more on the trails means I need trail running shoes. Yay! Shoe shopping! Except, there’s actually a little more to it than just shopping for basic running shoes. Okay, there can really be a lot more. 1. Not all running shoe stores sell…

Shoes News and other Exciting Things

Linking up with Marcia, Erika, and Patty for Tuesdays on the Run. The prompt for this week’s Tuesdays on the Run is “show me your shoes!” Well, you’re in luck because I have plenty of those to show off, including a brand new pair! PS. This post contains affiliate links. What that means is, if you purchase a product through that link, I will be compensated a small amount. It does not change your cost of the item. Road Running I’m a Saucony girl. I’ve been wearing Sauconys for years…

Weekly Workout Recap #3

Sweet essence of heliotrope, where did the warm weather go???!!! Sweet essence of heliotrope – my grandma used to say that. That was her version of F&#$, Sh*t, D&mn. I always loved it. So ladylike. 🙂 My mom worked with a lady who said “foot.”  LOL. It does have a good mouthfeel though. Normally, I love winter. I love sweaters and layers and crisp breezes and the clean feeling you get when breathing in cold air but man, I’ll tell you what – I am so over it already.  Is it Spring yet…

Peanut Butter Banana Oat Bars

The secret is out. I like bars. source Not that kind of bar, silly! This girl doesn’t have time to be going out to some random bar! I’m talking about bars that are rich with peanut butter and banana, made with healthy ingredients like oats and buckwheat flour and Greek yogurt, and have no refined sugar. Now that’s my kind of bar! (Not that I’m against a night out and a mixed drink every now and then….) 🙂 I made these bars a couple weeks ago but they were a little different…

What I’m Looking Forward to in 2018

Linking up with Marcia, Erika, and Patty for Tuesdays on the Run. The prompt for this week was predictions for 2018 in January. I don’t know that I want to make predictions. I’m hesitant. So many things can happen and, after my injury that required surgery, I prefer to just kind of roll with the punches and not hold myself to too many hard promises. That said, there are a few (running) things I’m looking forward to in 2018. 1. My first 20 miler Why on earth would anyone look forward to running 20…

TIPS FOR SURVIVING YOUR FIRST CYCLING CLASS

I was at cycling class this past week and there were a couple people in there that I didn’t recognize. I’ve only been going there for a few months and I took a little break when I was really trying to get back into running so it’s no shock to me that there are people I’ve never seen before. I’m sure they’re thinking the same about me. haha! Anyway, it got me to thinking about my very first cycling class and how scared I was walking in the…

WEEKLY WORKOUT RECAP #2

I cannot tell a lie. I did not do yoga on Sunday. I made it a complete and total rest day. #dontjudgeme Oh, except for when I was finally able to get my dog out for a walk! It was still really cold but she was going stir crazy with cabin fever and I wanted to check out the roads. They’re still a mess so I may not be able to get outside and run again until Thursday. Black ice is no bueno! Monday It was back to the Y and the treadmill for me today. Had an…

MY RUNNING GUILTY PLEASURES

The theme for this week’s edition of Tuesdays on the Run is Running Guilty Pleasures. I’m linking up with Marcia, Erika, and Patty. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before but … I love running. It’s one of my favorite things to do. 🙂  Sure, there are definitely days that I don’t really want to get out of bed (especially lately – I’m not meant for sub-zero temps!!) but I’m definitely never sad after I’ve finished a run. If you were…

WHY RUNNERS SHOULD STRENGTH TRAIN

Once upon a time, I used to just run. A lot. I thought I was in great shape! I mean, I ran a couple marathons, I burned all the calories, and I felt pretty darned good! That’s “in shape,” right? Except, I couldn’t push a 25# weight above my head.  I mean, I could certainly force it up there if I needed to and I sometimes I did but I know it wasn’t pretty and I’m surprised I didn’t injure myself. I started adding strength training into my…
